The Lead Customer Architect, Tier 1 Service Provider Sales Engineering role will be focused on providing world class pre-sales customer engagement, influencing and technical sales support for Calix’s growing list of large, global telecommunications operators.   This role act as a field CTO for Calix’s Tier 1 service provider customers, mentor the Tier 1 Sales Engineering (SE) team, and provide high level field support on global strategic customer engagements.  


This position is responsible for leading pre-sales technical engagement with the customer, VAR's, product and technical presentations, including network design. This will require strong capabilities to interact, influence and negotiate with senior technical staff and management within Calix’s telecommunications operator customers. Candidate should have a strong technical background and knowledge of telecommunications Voice, Data, and Video networking. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively work with multiple audiences and levels within both internal and external organizations are required. 


The primary function of this role is to lead the technical strategy and engament with CxO level executives at Calix’s major service provider customers.  This role will also provide leadership and coaching to the Tier 1 Sales Engineer (SE) team:

  • Pre-Sales technical support of Calix’s network solutions
  • Make technical sales-oriented presentations to customer's technical staff and senior management in an exciting and memorable manner
  • Contribute as the technical lead for global AVP sales enginering leadership team
  • Perform senior/principal SE work in the field supporting the teams in key and strategic customer engagements (all international geographies)
  • Lead technical training and develop programs/processes that can be leveraged across Calix
  • Aggregate technical product information from lead customers into the Calix engineering and product leadership teams
  • Work with customers and resellers to design and architect network solutions to their access applications needs
  • Influences others decisions and adept at simplifying for others our Calix technology. 
  • Deep understanding of the product portfolio to understand best solution.
  • Thought leader and influencer who is fluent in Access and SDN technologies
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the continuous education and training of others, and stay current on technology trends – be a technical resource


  • BSEE/BSCS desired
  • 50% US domestic travel
  • 10+ years’ experience in telecommunications with specific knowledge of fiber, copper access solutions and SDN. 
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills are required
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in the telecommuncations industry in both legacy network models and new IP and SDN based service models
  • Strong interpersonal, written and public speaking skills and the ability to work effectively across multiple audiences and levels within both internal and external organizations
  • Demonstrated leadership experience working with teams covering region, or national sales efforts
